K-9 Hugo and Handler Matt Pasquarella

K-9 Hugo and State Park Peace Officer (Ranger) Matt Pasquarella have been partnered since the spring of 2020. They are assigned to the Capital District in Sacramento. Hugo is a sable-colored German Shepherd born in the Czech Republic on July 12, 2018. All his commands are given in Czech. He is a patrol K-9 trained in tracking, handler protection, explosives detection, locating and apprehending suspects. Hugo responds to suspicious items and performs preliminary bomb sweeps for events and dignitaries. When he’s off duty, Hugo enjoys lounging in the sun, dreaming of his toy.
