Description:
The structure and one contributing site, complementing apron of open space with landscaped character that was developed with the stadium, were listed at the state level of significance in the areas of architecture and engineering as a distinctive example of type, period, and method of construction and as the work of a master architect. The stadium’s basically unaltered Roman façade – with its arches, rustication, and other classically designed elements – is an excellent example of Beaux-Arts design and academic building. The combined earthen-bowl and coliseum type stadium on the side of a hill was achieved through skillful engineering of earth moving and construction.
