Description:
Santa Barbara County Courthouse was constructed in 1929 and is a complex of four buildings and gardens occupying an entire city block in downtown Santa Barbara. It was designed by master architect William Mooser in the Spanish Colonial/Moorish Revival style. Key elements of the Courthouse are the clock tower with the original clock works that still mark time, and the Mural Room with original murals by California artist Daniel Sayre Groesbeck. Santa Barbara County Courthouse is an extraordinary example of its style, with an elaborate array of detail emulating a Spanish castle or fortress. Designated a National Historic Landmark, 4/5/2005, and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, 1/23/1981, NPS-81000177.
