R2S2 is the Recreation and Reservations Sales Service Project DPR initiated to modernize the existing reservations service and point-of-sale processes at our state parks. R2S2 will enable parks to accept a variety of payment types and will provide a more customer-friendly web interface.
R2S2 will be used for online and web-based reservations beginning August 1, 2017. However, some parks will use a short-term manual fulfillment process, similar to the existing manual fulfillment process, between August 1, 2017 and full R2S2 implementation (targeted for completion by March 2018) until they receive new R2S2 equipment and training.
Park staff from across the department, and our visitors, will be affected by R2S2. For example, Visitor Services staff will receive new equipment and training on new point-of-sale and reservation fulfillment processes. Supervisors will have access to operational and data analytics reports to help them make decisions about park operations. Visitors will use a new website to make reservations and experience a new point-of-sale process at park entrances. As R2S2 is implemented, staff will receive new equipment and training on the new service and changes in point-of-sale and reservation fulfillment processes.
August 1, 2017 is the day the new R2S2 service replaces DPR’s existing Reserve America (RA) reservations service. For many locations, reservation fulfillment (checking campers in, reserving campsites for drive-up visitors) initially will stay the same. However, R2S2 (not RA) will provide the reports (e.g., Daily Arrival Report) you need to fulfill reservations. There also will be new printers and changes in how you print the 453 Camp Registration forms. You will receive training on these changes prior to go-live.
Visitors start using R2S2 at midnight August 1, 2017. Until then, the Reserve America website and current Call Center will be available for reservations.
Visitors will be able to make reservations using the R2S2 web interface or through the R2S2 Contact Center.
R2S2 has the functionality to handle day-use and boat launch reservations. Park Operations is conducting a standardization exercise to identify additional day-use inventory to be included in R2S2. We will share final outcomes as they become available.
Through the new R2S2 reservations contract that DPR signed in March 2016, R2S2 will provide state-of –the-art technology, including streamlined payment processing and reconciliation, enhanced revenue tracking, reporting and data analytics, more flexibility to manage park inventory and operations, and a more user-friendly web application for visitors.
Training will be provided prior to users accessing R2S2. A comprehensive training approach is being developed to ensure users get the information they need, when they need it. Both instructor-led and self-directed web-based training are in development. The training schedule and more detailed training information will be available prior to the service going live. Job Aids also will be provided.
Park units with reservable inventory will have R2S2 access. R2S2 is a web-based service that requires internet connection. The timeline for making R2S2 available in specific parks will be updated as the project progresses.
R2S2 will provide real-time data where there is internet connection. This means Parks staff will be able to see which inventory is reserved or sold and what is still available on the new R2S2 point-of-sale devices at their field locations. Parks with limited or no internet connection will be able to generate reports to view inventory status. Park staff with internet can print or fax these reports for non-connected sites.
At go-live, R2S2 will accept cash and credit cards. New payment methods, including gift cards, are being considered for future R2S2 enhancements.
R2S2 has the functionality to allow Districts to manage their own inventory. Park Operations is discussing guidelines for delegating inventory management. We will share final determinations.
R2S2 will provide a variety of reports at go-live. The R2S2 Team and DPRs Subject Matter Experts are working to ensure that reports used today will be available in the future.
As of now, new equipment will be distributed to selected locations prior to August 1, 2017. Hearst Castle and Folsom SRA Granite Bay are scheduled to receive new point-of-sale equipment prior to August 1, 2017. Bolsa Chica and Huntington Beach day-use and South Carlsbad and San Elijo camping locations are scheduled to receive equipment in September 2017. There is a wide variety of new equipment including: desktops, mobile devices, tablets, scanners, printers, cash drawers and card readers. The equipment each location will receive will be determined based upon business needs.
The current plan is to replace the Boca printers. This may change as the project progresses. We will provide more details when the equipment inventory is completed.
Yes, there is an alert functionality in the new system that will contact people in their preferred method (identified in their profile). R2S2 will provide visitors the message you create in the alerts section of the system. The Marketing and Business Development office also will assist in visitor communication when necessary.
On August 1, 2017, the R2S2 Contact Center will be available. The Contact Center will be located in California and staffed with Californians who can help visitors make camping and tour reservations.
