Sean Woods is the Superintendent of California State Parks, Los Angeles Sector. Superintendent Woods has worked with California State Parks for the past 14 years with the primary responsibility of spearheading the Department’s Urban Strategic Initiative by bringing the State Park Mission to some of the most underserved, park-poor communities in the heart of the nation’s second largest city in the United States. Through this initiative, State Parks has worked cooperatively with local partners to address the needs of under-served urban residents by committing resources to community outreach and development of urban parks. Superintendent Woods has overseen the planning and development efforts at Rio de Los Angeles State Parks, Los Angeles State Historic Park, and the Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook, representing an over $150 million dollar investment in the urban core of Los Angeles. Central to urban planning efforts has been a focus on Los Angeles River Parks as vital links in the greening of the LA River and implementation of the Los Angeles River Revitalization Master Plan. Prior to State Parks, Sean Woods worked with the California Coastal Conservancy and authored the study Wetlands of the Los Angeles River Watershed: Profiles and Restoration Opportunities, one of the first studies to focus on LA River revitalization efforts.
