Fishing at Millerton Lake

Whether fishing from the shore or aboard a vessel, you are sure to enjoy the bountiful waters of Millerton Lake. Common species include large-mouth bass, stripped bass, spotted bass, blue gills, crappies, carp, and catfish. The lake is not stocked.

Millerton Lake General Fishing Regulations



All anglers 16 years of age and up must have a valid California Fishing license and keep it on their person for inspection by either a Fish and Wildlife officer or State Park Peace Officer.

Carp Fishing

Spring bow and arrow carp fishing is permitted at Millerton Lake. Carp taken and harvested from the lake shall be removed from the park. Bow and arrow fishing is only permitted from a vessel and is not allowed from shoreline.

Bass Tournaments

Bass tournaments frequently take place at Millerton Lake. These tournaments are organized and facilitated by unaffiliated groups. Organizations seeking to host fishing tournaments must complete a Special Event permit and pay associated fees. For more information, please contact the park office at (559)822-2332.

Fish Advisory: Safe Eating Advice

When consuming fish from Millerton Lake, women ages 18-49 and children ages 1-17 may safely eat a maximum of two total servings per week of Goldfish or sunfish species, or one serving per week of black bass species.

Women ages 50 and older and men ages 18 and older may safely eat a maximum of seven total servings per week of Goldfish or sunfish species, or two servings per week of black bass species.

One serving is an eight-ounce fish fillet, measured prior to cooking, which is roughly the size and thickness of your hand. Children should be given smaller servings. For small fish species, several individual fish may make up a single serving.
