Possession of Metal Detectors
No person shall possess a metal detector or other geophysical discovery device, or use a metal detector or other geophysical discovery techniques to locate or recover subsurface objects or features within Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park. Exemptions to this order are as follows:
- When transporting, but not using, a metal detector or other geophysical discovery device in a vehicle on a public road.
- As allowed by permit issued pursuant to Title 43 CFR, Section 423.50.
The prohibition of metal detectors and other geophysical discovery devices is in effect for the protection of cultural and historic resources, and for consistency with other laws surrounding the California Code of Regulations (CCR).
Exception to this order may only be granted in writing by the Gold Fields District Superintendent at 7806 Folsom-Auburn Road, Folsom, CA 95630. Nothing herein shall be construed in derogation of other provisions of the law.
