All programs will meet Monday through Friday at the San Buenaventura State Beach.

Please refer to the Jr. Guard calendar for programs daily activities.

The entrance to San Buenaventura State Beach is located on the corner of Pierpont Blvd. and San Pedro Street. Check our web site for meeting place maps.

Lunch

Our program requires a great deal of energy and for that reason we have scheduled a lunch break into our day. Please send a healthy lunch and plenty of WATER with your child. To make as little impact on the environment as possible please consider bringing ‘waste free’ lunches and absolutely no single use drink containers. Please store fluids in a reusable container each day. We also recommend that lunches be secured in a seagull proof container.

EQUIPMENT

Jr. Guards are encouraged to bring their wetsuits, fins and body boards each day. Jr. Guards will have the opportunity to use these items during free time. However, we do ask that surfboards be left at home unless otherwise directed by the Jr. Guard Instructors. If you do not posses fins and/or body boards the Jr Guard program will ‘loan’ equipment daily from the equipment trailer

CHANNEL ISLAND BOAT TRIP

Jr. Guards that will be participating in the Island Trip are encouraged to bring their own mask and snorkel but are not required to do so. We will have mask, snorkel and fins available. Also, please bring warm waterproof clothing for the boat ride and comfortable shoes for a short hike on the Island. Check in time is 8:30 am sharp. The boat charter company Island Packers, is located at 1691 Spinnaker Drive in the Ventura Marina. See MAPS on this website for directions.

Parents interested in joining our program to the Islands are encouraged to purchase boarding passes in advance from Island Packers.

PIER SWIM

The annual Pier Swim has become a great accomplishment for both Jr. Guards and their parents. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to swim. The swim will start at 10:00 AM sharp. Parents may park in the Pier Lot with a JG parking pass. Space is limited. A fee will be charged to park in the City Parking structure.

DRIVING IN THE STATE PARK

It is critical that you do not exceed the speed limit in the State Park. The speed limit is 15 miles per hour. Additional parking passes are available throughout each program. During the Ventura County Fair and other Special Events, without a parking pass you will be charged to enter the park.

CARPOOL LIST - Not all participants are on the car pool list, only those who indicated on the application that they wanted their name published to assist with forming car pools. The carpool list will be mailed in the first part of June.
