California State Parks Week: Bone Detectives

Bones and teeth can tell many stories. Join us to examine bones and skull replicas as you use your powers of observation to solve the mystery of what animals they belong to and the interesting secrets they reveal about how each survives. Stop by our table outside the Summit Visitor Center any time between 10am and 2pm. Park entry fee: $10 per vehicle/$9 for seniors. There is no fee for the program. Meets: Summit Visitor Center. California State Parks Week: Prescriptions for Plants

Mount Diablo’s wide diversity of plant life and the wildlife it supports make the mountain the beautiful place we all enjoy. Join us for a walk to see how many plants you can discover and to learn what we are doing to strengthen these plant communities to help them stay healthy in the warming climate. Birds, Butterflies, and Blooms

Join us in Mount Diablo State Park’s stunning Mitchell Canyon on an exploration for All That Begins with B and Beyond – birds, butterflies, blooms and more!  We'll hike for about 3 to 4 miles with little elevation gain and enjoy nature's beautiful display along the way. Bring water, snacks, and binoculars if you have them. The walk is about 3 miles with some elevation gain.

Common Poorwill Evening Hike

7:00 pm - 10:30 pm

We'll start the evening at Mitchell Canyon listening for bird calls. As twilight approaches we plan to be in the upper portion of White Canyon looking for Bats flying low overhead. Next comes the sounds of the common poorwill and owls. The return walk in the dark may turn up some interesting wildlife! Bring flashlight, binoculars, liquids, and hiking poles if you use them. Please dress for the weather. Hike is about 3 + miles round trip, with some elevation gain.

Junior Rangers: Insects

Do you think our six-legged neighbors creepy or cool? Join us to take a closer look at the world of insects. Learn about fierce predators, plant munchers, and nectar sippers and how they get a meal. We’ll search for insects, play a game, and design our own imaginary insects.
This program for 7-12 year-olds meets at Laurel Nook Picnic Area. Park at the Diablo Overlook parking area next to Juniper Campground. There is a $10 per vehicle entry fee. Presented by California State Parks.
