APRIL 2024 EVENTS 

Junior Rangers

Junior Rangers will return in April 2024 on Fridays from 3-4 pm at the picnic tables in the middle of the campground. These programs are geared toward kids 6-12 and feature an educational element, a craft, or a game to explore your local state park while earning badges and prizes. Free program to attend, no need to RSVP.

- April 12 & 26th: Plankton and Water Quality Testing
- April 19th: Earth Day Beach Cleanup

Grunion Run

Grunion season 2024 has begun!

What is a grunion?
Grunion are small fish that come out of the water onto land during the highest tides of the month to spawn from March -August. Literally a fish out of water! Since the highest tide time is after beach curfew, it is difficult to watch this amazing behavior. The best way to watch is by joining a public program.

Bolsa Chica State Beach will host a grunion run once a month for the entire grunion season. During these programs, registered participants will be able to park and be on the sand after beach curfew with a state park staff member. Participants will listen to a short program about these amazing fish before heading out to look for them. As most of the grunion population live off the Southern California coast, it’s truly a unique experience you can get nowhere else. YOU MUST RSVP TO ATTEND THIS EVENT, SPACE IS LIMITED.

Starting in April every other Thursday at 5 pm, Bolsa Chica State Beach will be hosting free programs geared for all ages at Beach City Provisions. Bring your friends and family to enjoy a sunset at the beach, grab some grub from Provisions, and learn more about Bolsa Chica State Beach.
