Overview

Faced with rapid growth and enormous development pressures, natural and human environments in the San Diego-Tijuana coastal region struggle to coexist. In 2002, the Tijuana River National Estuarine Research Reserve began implementation of the Coastal Training Program or CTP, in an effort to provide accurate, science-based information for those individuals and organizations whose daily decisions affect the health of our coastal region. The CTP presents an exciting opportunity to improve resource management for the Tijuana River NERR, on both sides of the US-Mexico border, through a progressive program of partnerships, collaboration and high quality "cutting-edge" information exchange.

• The CTP provides training and information for coastal decision-makers through formats such as workshops, seminars, watershed tours, and web-based products. All training provided is grounded in accurate science-based information.
• Partnerships are essential to the success of the CTP. We are always seeking out new partnerships in an attempt to increase networking and collaboration across various sectors and disciplines. If your agency or organization is interested in partnering with the Tijuana River NERR Coastal Training Program, please contact us.
• The CTP is also attempting to affect change "on the ground". The CTP Coordinator serves as a key facilitator for cross-border interactions within the Tijuana River Watershed, and has helped implement several trans-border projects in Mexico, including the Los Laureles Canyon Erosion and Sedimentation Control Project, Matadero Canyon Binational Conservation Easement, and Los Sauces Canyon Restoration Project.
