An Outdoor Classroom Experiencestudents on field trip

Located in the Gabilan Mountains, Hollister Hills SVRA offers 6,800 acres for off-highway vehicle (OHV) opportunities as well as designated hiking, bicycling, and equestrian trails. Educational opportunities connects students to their local natural and cultural resources while fostering stewardship of our public lands.

Program Information

  • Fill out a request form for a classroom presentation or field trip click here!  
  • The maximum number of students per field trip is 35 with a maximum of 10 adults.
  • There is no fees for field trips. Reservations at least 30 days in advance will receive free entrance into the park. 
  • Maximum 2 classes per field trip. (Larger group sizes may be accomodated based on staffing levels).
  • Field trip time frame 10am-11:30am and typically end around 12pm depending on group size.
  • Teachers and chaperones are responsible for discipline issues on field trips

Field Trip Options

1st THROUGH 4th GRADE - Survival by the Creekmodel skull at kids program

Description: During the nature hike students discover local wildlife that call Hollister Hills their home, while focusing on animal adaptations for survival and habitats. 

Hike:  Nature Area-Beck Trail-easy trail less than 1-mile.

Bring: Participants are encouraged to bring a snack, lunch, water, comfortable walking shoes, and layered clothing.

Time: Field trip time frame 10am-11:30am. A field trip for two classrooms typically end by noon.

Standards: this program is designed for 2nd grade groups, and aligns with the Next Generation Science Standards including but not limited to 2-LS2-1, 2LS2-2, 2LS4-1, 4LS1-1, 4-LS1-2, 2ESS1-1, 2ESS2-1. (In most cases, our programs may be tailored to your group's grade level and curriculum.)

5th GRADE - WALK THE FAULTstudents walking on trail

Description: The San Andreas Fault divides Hollister Hills in two distinct landscapes. On this geologic excursion, students explore the concept Pacific Tectonic plate and its affects on our local soil and plant communities. 

Hike:  Nature Area-Beck Trail-easy trail less than 1-mile.

Bring: Participants are encouraged to bring a snack, lunch, water, comfortable walking shoes, and dressed to play in the outdoors.

Time: Field trip time frame 10am-11:30am. A field trip for two classrooms typically end by noon.

Standards: this program is designed for 5th grade groups, and aligns with the Next Generation Science Standards including but not limited to 4-ESS1-1 and 5-ESS3-1. (In most cases, our programs may be tailored to your group's grade level and curriculum.)
