This semiannual event promotes safe and responsible OHV recreation across California's dedicated OHV public lands. This year’s theme reminds OHV recreational users to focus on sharing the responsibility of following safety protocols and protecting the state’s natural resources.

California State Parks Launches Virtual Adventurer Mobile App, an Interactive Augmented and Virtual Reality Journey

SACRAMENTO, Calif.— California State Parks today launched Virtual Adventurer, a new mobile app that will transform how park visitors connect to and interact with the iconic places, deep history and diverse cultural and natural landscapes of California. This augmented reality app transports visitors through time, and its virtual reality experiences offer exciting ways for users to explore new perspectives shared by people who continue to call California home.

SACRAMENTO, Calif.—This year, the California State Parks’ Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation (OHMVR) Division and partners are encouraging off-highway vehicle (OHV) enthusiasts to be off-road heroes. The theme for the 2023 OHV Safety Awareness Weeks, set for April 1-9 and November 11-19, is “Be the Off-Road Hero.” Setting the example by following safety protocols can have a positive impact in the lives of all Californians.

California State Parks Announces Phased Reopening Plan for Vehicular Use at Oceano Dunes State Vehicular Recreation Area and Pismo State Beach

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – California State Parks today announced a three-phased reopening plan for vehicular use at Oceano Dunes State Vehicular Recreation Area (SVRA) and Pismo State Beach (SB), starting Friday, Oct. 30, 2020. Vehicular access to all state park units was closed in March to prevent visitation surges and help mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

California State Parks Fences Off 48 Acres at Oceano Dunes SVRA to Meet Jan. 1, 2020 Air Quality Requirement - Department honoring all current reservations

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The California Department of Parks and Recreation (State Parks) has taken an important step at Oceano Dunes State Vehicular Recreation Area (SVRA) to improve air quality conditions for nearby communities. On Monday, Dec. 16, 2019, State Parks began fencing off 48 acres around an area commonly referred to as the foredune area (Post 4-1/2 to Post 6) to meet a Jan. 1, 2020 San Luis Obispo County Air Pollution Control District (APCD) Stipulated Order of Abatement (SOA) deadline. It is important for the public to know that the department will be honoring all current reservations at the SVRA. Additionally, the off-highway vehicle riding area will not be impacted by the closure of the foredune area.  

‘Safe Dunes Start With You’ Message Greets Labor Day Outdoor Enthusiasts at Oceano Dunes

California State Parks reminds all visitors to Oceano Dunes State Vehicular Recreation Area (SVRA) that “Safe Dunes Start With You” – “La Seguridad en las Dunas Comienza con Usted”. The bilingual safety campaign was launched recently to employ safe practices and remind visitors to be aware of their surroundings at this popular outdoor destination. Simple tips such as taking it slow, scouting your route, knowing your limits and treading lightly can improve safety for all visitors. 

El Departamento de Parques Estatales recuerda a todos los visitantes del Área de Recreación Vehicular de Oceano Dunes (SVRA) que “La Seguridad en las Dunas Comienza con Usted” – “Safe Dunes Start With You”. La campaña de seguridad bilingüe se lanzó recientemente para emplear practicas seguras y recordar a los visitantes que deben conocer sus alrededores en este lugar. Consejos de seguridad simples como conducir con calma, revisar su ruta, conocer sus límites y pasar con cuidado pueden mejorar la seguridad de todos los visitantes.
