Junior Ranger Program

Junior Ranger Program: Animal Tracks and Signs

This Junior Ranger program introduces children to the fascinating world of animal tracks and indicators found in state parks. Participants will learn how to identify common animal tracks by examining track shapes, toe patterns, claw marks, and movement patterns. Through hands-on activities, children will practice matching tracks to different wildlife species and discover how tracks can tell us stories about animal behavior, habitat use, and survival.

The program will include an interactive track identification activity that encourages observation, critical thinking, and teamwork. To reinforce what they have learned, participants will create their own animal track craft to take home, providing a memorable reminder of their Junior Ranger experience.

By the end of the program, children will have a greater appreciation for local wildlife and the role of observation in understanding and protecting natural resources and will be badged as an official Junior Rnager of California State Parks.

Program will begin at 9:00 a.m. and will last approximately one hour.
