2025 Local Host City: Pomona
Located in the Pomona Valley, between the Inland Empire and San Gabriel Valley, the city of Pomona is named after the ancient Roman goddess of fruit. The name proved prophetic, and vineyards flourished in the 1880’s, supplying the winemaking and raisin industries. Though Pomona is situated in the middle of Southern California, it is only 16 miles from Mt. Baldy in the San Antonio Canyon of Angeles National Forest where the mountain range provides excellent hiking when the snow isn’t in season. Pomona is located within the ancestral territory of the Gabrieleno Tongva and Tataavium people, sharing the space among the Kizh, Serrano, Cahuilla, Rumsen/Ohlone, and Luiseno people.
The city enjoys an average of 288 sunny days per year, making it a great destination for outdoor activities. Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy hiking, mountain biking, and skiing opportunities just a short drive away, including Chino Hills State Park, Laguna Lake Park, and San Dimas Canyon Park. Pomona actively promotes green initiatives and has implemented programs to reduce water consumption and promote renewable energy sources.

Today, Pomona is the seventh largest city in Los Angeles County, with a population of over 151,000 residents. The Los Angeles County Fair is a highly anticipate and hugely attended event each year, held at the Pomona Fairplex; the Fairplex hosts a myriad of “Los Angeles” festivals throughout the year, including the Los Angeles County Irish Fair & Music Festival each St. Patrick’s Day. California State Polytechnic University, Pomona is on the edge of the city and is currently ranked #6 among the Best Public Schools in the West by U.S. News and World Report.
Downtown Pomona is filled with charming shops, restaurants, art galleries, street fairs, and farmers markets, creating a lively and eclectic atmosphere, including Pomona Antique Row, Fox Theater Pomona, and Latino Art Museum. Pomona is also home to the California Botanic Garden, the George & Sakaye Artani Japanese Garden, and the Fairplex Garden Railroad.
