SACRAMENTO, Calif. –
The California State Railroad Museum is proud to offer a series of special activations for the community to experience and enjoy during California State Parks Week, June 12-16, 2024. Now in its third year and representing 280 California State Park units, California State Parks Week is an exciting annual event designed to celebrate the amazing diversity of California’s State Park System and the people who visit and help protect the iconic places. California State Parks Week advances the “Outdoor Access for All” initiative championed by Gov. Gavin Newsom and First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom.

To celebrate California State Parks Week, the California State Railroad Museum is offering the following activities and activations:

  • Wednesday, June 12 through Sunday, June 16 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.: Earn a Junior Ranger Award

A perfect activity for school-age children out for the summer, the Museum is offering an opportunity for them to earn a Junior Ranger Award by completing various activities in the Junior Ranger Adventure Guide as they travel through the museum. Young participants will learn about everything from the contributions by Chinese railroad workers to the invaluable Lost Golden Spike. This activity will be available for free (included with paid Museum admission). For more information, please visit this link.

  • Thursday, June 13 from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m.: Yoga in the Roundhouse

Visitors are encouraged to start the day by participating in a yoga flow session led by certified yoga instructors inside the Museum’s Roundhouse while surrounded by historic locomotives. With a “Nourish Your Health and Well-Being” theme, all fitness levels are welcome for adults and children between the ages of 13-18 (when accompanied by an adult). Yoga participants need to bring their own yoga mats and water. The fitness session is free but space is limited and those interested are encouraged to RSVP here.

  • Friday, June 14 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.: Support Climate Resilience Pop-Up

As a special, one-day-only activation, Museum visitors will be treated to a high-speed rail pop-up inside the Museum’s historic Roundhouse provided by the High-Speed Rail Authority. Interactive activities around sustainability and renewable energy on high-speed rail will be available for free (included with paid Museum admission). More information about the limited time pop-up is available here.
