Become a Volunteer in Parks

Volunteer opportunities at Fort Tejon State Historic Park include helping with special events, being a docent and interpreting a living history station at the park, assisting with on-site school tours, assisting with tours for the public, and other activities.

A "docent" is a volunteer that has attended training for their position. No previous experience or prior knowledge of the history of Fort Tejon is required. Learn about the history of Fort Tejon and the region at docent trainings held anually. Topics include techniques for giving guided tours, an introduction to California State Parks and the Volunteers In Parks Program, and more. You will receive information at the training to study. Enjoy meeting new friends while volunteering at Fort Tejon State Historic Park.

Docents may range in age from college students to senior citizens, must be interested in learning, and have a positive, friendly attitude. Applicants must complete a volunteer application, preliminary interview, consent to a background check, complete the volunteer or docent training program, and have reliable transportation to and from the park.
