Become a Volunteer!

Volunteer opportunities at Colonel Allensworth State Historic Park include helping with special events, being a docent and assisting with on-site school tours and/or tours for the public, and other activities.

A "docent" is a volunteer that has attended training for their position. No previous experience or prior knowledge of the history of Allensworth is required. Learn about the history of the town and residents of Allensworth at docent trainings held annually at Colonel Allensworth State Historic Park. Topics include an introduction to California State Parks and the Volunteers In Parks Program, interpretive techniques for being a docent or giving guided tours, and much more.

Prospective volunteers range in age from college student to senior citizen, are interested in learning, and have a positive, friendly attitude. Applicants must complete a volunteer application, preliminary interview, consent to a background check, complete the volunteer or docent training program, and have reliable transportation to and from the park.
