About PPPC

PPPC provides policy level review, comments and recommendations to the Director on significant programs, policies, strategies, initiatives and the like that have system-wide or mission-based implications. The PPPC's primary responsibilities are to:

  • Establish priorities and make management-level decisions for the Department's Acquisition, Planning, and Development programs, and
  • Provide a forum for resolving conflict issues not worked out by staff on such projects.

The PPPC also advises the Director regarding policies, programs, schedules and achievements related to certain aspects of planning for the State Park System and its units.  These aspects include:

  • The preparation of the State Park System Plan
  • The naming and classification of major new properties
  • The review of unit-level general plans, amendments, certain interim use or management plans, and certain immediate public use plans
  • Determination of consistency of selected projects with approved general plans
  • Determination of whether selected projects require general plan approval before being developed
  • The prioritization of land acquisition, major facility development, interpretation, restoration and preservation projects
  • The continuous improvement of planning guidelines and procedures, as provided in the Department's Planning Handbook (2010 update)
  • Coordination of General Plan preparation with the scheduling and location of State Park and Recreation Commission meetings
