The California Department of Parks and Recreation oversees the nature and extent of archaeological fieldwork carried out on State Parks Land. The purpose of the DPR-412A form is to chronicle archaeological investigative work and its research context. The department wants to encourage viable research projects; however, potential investigators must complete the approval process and possess an authorized DPR-412A before any work begins.

Instructions: Submit signed applications electronically to this address: Archaeological.Permits@parks.ca.gov
Applications can also be sent directly to the District where work is to be performed. The purpose of the work must be clearly outlined, a USGS topographic map and other map showing precise location of proposed work needs to be attached, as well as the resume of the principal investigator. Please allow up to one month for processing. Direct questions to Archaeological.Permits@parks.ca.gov
