California State Parks’ Southern Service Center is located in San Diego, California. It is one of two Service Centers providing a wide range of professional support services to more than 280 state park units. The Service Centers’ multi-disciplinary teams work together to protect, sustain, and enhance California’s state parks.

The Southern Service Center has both full- and part-time archaeologists who perform a variety of cultural resource projects and procedures.

We have expertise and experience in many aspects of archaeological field and laboratory work, and other aspects of cultural resource management including:

Our service area covers the State Parks in southern and some of central California, but we also have participated in state-wide efforts, and helped out in State Parks in northern California, and even assisted other state agencies on occasion. We work on projects in various environments from the coastal bluffs to the forested mountains, to the sandy and rocky deserts. This enables us to work in many different cultural areas and meet and work with people from diverse backgrounds and histories.
