California State Parks Mission
The mission of the California State Parks system is to provide for the health, inspiration, and education of the people of California by helping to preserve the state’s extraordinary biological diversity, protecting its most valued natural and cultural resources, and creating opportunities for high-quality outdoor recreation. [Public Resources Code section 5019.91(b)]

Natural Resources Division (NRD) Mission
NRD provides overall leadership and direction to the Department’s natural resource responsibility: to acquire, protect, restore, maintain, and sustain outstanding and representative examples of California’s natural and scenic values for the benefit of present and future generations. (Department Operations Manual 0303, 0303.1.2)
