2017 Holiday Events
Nov. 26-Dec. 23: Holiday Music Program – California State Capitol: Festive music and celebration began at our Capitol as early as December 1869, during its triumphant opening. Since 1996 the California State Capitol Museum, in association with the Legislature, the Governor’s Office, and the Department of General Services has worked to restore holiday traditions inside the Capitol with daily musical concerts and early twentieth century decorations. Daily performances in the Capitol Rotunda. More Information
Nov. 30-Dec. 30: Holiday Tours of Adamson House: Malibu Lagoons State Beach: Special tours of the house decorated for the holidays with family memorabilia on display exclusively for the Holiday Tours. There will be holiday music and refreshments. More Information
Throughout December: Hearst San Simeon State Historic Monument: While there are no specific Christmas tours at the Castle, Christmas at Hearst Castle is an event that is not to be missed. Beginning Thanksgiving weekend through the end of December, the main house and guest houses are decorated just as they might have been at Christmas time in the 1920s and 30s, creating an impressive sight and a special atmosphere that is sure to make the season bright. Dec. 15-16: Holiday Evening Tours: Bidwell Mansion State Historic Park: The tours will cover all three floors of the mansion, which will be decorated in Victorian holiday style. Parks staff and volunteers, dressed in period costumes, will be available to answer questions and provide insight into the history of this special home built by the city’s founders, Tickets can be purchased at the Bidwell Mansion State Historic Park Visitor Center, 525 Esplanade in Chico on Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays from 11 `a.m. to 5 p.m. More information.
Dec 16: Will Rogers State Historic Park: Will Roger’s Parade of Lights: The Will Roger Ranch Foundation, Westside Riding School and State Parks are presenting an evening equine parade of horses decorated in holiday lights beginning at 4:30 p.m. Special Christmas Tours of Will Roger’s Ranch House will be available.
Dec 16: Holiday Open House: Donner Memorial State Park: Bring the family as we celebrate the holidays, community, and the pioneer spirit among the exhibits at the Donner Memorial State Park’s Visitor Center. Music, storytelling, arts and crafts, author lecture by Jordan Fisher- Smith, guided history hikes, activities for junior Rangers and refreshments. More Information
Dec. 16: William B. Ide Adobe State Historic Park: 37th Pioneer Christmas Party: Come join the Ide Adobe Interpretive Association and California State Parks for annual Pioneer Christmas Party in Red Bluff. Learn about life in the 1850s in a celebration that re-lives the Christmas traditions of early California pioneers. More Information
Dec. 23: Mrs. Claus Reads Holiday Stories: Alisomar State Beach and Conference Grounds:Settle into a cozy seat in front of the blazing fireplace as you listen to Mrs. Claus read Christmas favorites old and new. More Information
Dec. 29 -30: Winter Days in the Park: Calaveras Big Trees State Park: Bring the whole family for hot drinks, snowshoe tours, children’s crafts, singers, decorations and marshmallow roasting as we celebrate winter in the Sierra. More Information
