This interim California State Parks educational website was developed to provide public education and outreach to the visiting public about common stormwater pollutants at state parks resulting from human activity. Litter is the most common pollutant in the California State Park system. Illegal dumping is another source of pollution that severely affects public health and damages water resources. Another way that water resources are impacted by the visiting public is when park users stray from designated paths and trails, often causing erosion that damages downstream waters and increases maintenance costs.
