Friends of Palomar Mountain State Park (FPMSP) is dedicated to financially supporting the park in its twofold mission (1) to enhance the public's experience through educational and interpretive programs and (2) to preserve the park's unique biological, geological, archaeological, recreational, and scenic resources. Through various fund raising activities, FPMSP supports Palomar Mountain State Park by funding such things as interpretive displays and signs, the Junior Ranger program, nature walks, and tools and equipment for the park's volunteer trail crews.

FPMSP is currently operating as an arm of Cuyamaca Rancho State Park Interpretive Association (CRSPIA), the non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization that has supported Palomar for over two decades. All money donated to or raised by Friends of Palomar Mountain State Park while under the auspices of CRSPIA goes directly and exclusively towards supporting Palomar Mountain State Park. No portion is used for any other park or for general CRSPIA overhead. Board members and officers serve without compensation. Contributions to Friends of PMSP may be deductible under CRSPIA's 501(c)(3) status.
