Friends of Lakes Folsom and Natoma (FOLFAN), is a new State Park Cooperating Association for the Folsom Lake State Recreation Area. Formed in 2009, FOLFAN was inspired by the amazing variety of recreation the park provides, particularly along the American River Parkway.

Currently in their early growth phase, they financially support the State Parks’ Adopt-the-Parkway program. Using sponsors’ funds, they coordinate with State Park staff to install courtesy signs and stencils along the parkway from Hazel Avenue to Beal’s Point. FOLFAN is also conducting a detailed assessment of the 15 miles of the paved bike trail near the lakes to determine priorities for repairing or replacing asphalt, striping and signage.

FOLFAN started the 2011 summer season by purchasing four “Kids Don’t Float” signs, and they provide life jackets for visitors to borrow at Nimbus Flats, Negro Bar, Folsom Point, and Beal’s Point.

The mission of FOLFAN is to expand education and recreation opportunities and protect the natural and cultural resources of Lakes Folsom and Natoma. Please visit their website at www.folfan.org and consider becoming a FOLFAN!
