California State Parks’ archaeologists have been digging to discover the true story concerning the nearly forgotten Carrizo Creek Stage Station on the Butterfield Overland Mail Line. It was one of the few, very important stage stops in the Anza-Borrego Desert, now part of Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. Find out what the archeologists learned in the Historical and Archaeological Investigations at the Carrizo Creek Stage Station report. The archaeologists’ site research has helped to write part of the stage line story once lost to the desert sands of California.
