"Half our life is spent trying to find something to do with the time we have rushed through life trying to save." ~Will Rogers, New York Times (1930).   Will Rogers State Historic Park, The Will Rogers Ranch Foundation and a local art organization are offering something to do with the time you've saved.  At Will Rogers' former ranch there will be a celebration of his birthday on November 5.

Allied Artists of the Santa Monica Mountains & Seashore will present an art exhibit of paintings of the local mountains and beaches Will enjoyed and helped to preserve.  The art exhibit will be open from 10am to 5pm just outside the park Visitor's Center next to the ranch house.

In the tradition of celebrating the Great Man, antique cars and the live music of Dutch Newman and the Musical Melodians performing songs from the 1920's and 1930's.  Come join the festivities as we celebrate the man that "Never Met a Man I Didn't Like."     In addition to enjoying art and refreshments, visitors can hike the trails offering panoramic views of Los Angeles and the Pacific or take a ranch house tour.  Tour times are at the top of each hour from 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM.

During the 1920s Will Rogers bought land overlooking the Pacific Ocean in what is now known as Pacific Palisades.  He pursued his life-long love of riding and roping at this retreat where he relaxed with family and friends.  At his untimely death in a plane crash in 1935 his ranch consisted of a 31-room ranch house, a stable, corrals, riding ring, roping arena, polo field, golf course and hiking trails.

In 1944 his widow, Betty, deeded the ranch to the state for public use and enjoyment. The park is located at 1501 Will Rogers Park Road, Pacific Palisades, CA 90272, off  Sunset Boulevard.  For park information call 310-454-8212.
