San Onofre State Beach offers a variety of programs are offered year-round for all ages including but not limited to School Field Trips, Junior Rangers, Campfire Programs, Guided Hikes, Nature Walks, and Volunteer Projects. All programs are offered courtesy of California State Parks.

In addition all visitors of San Onofre State Beach are welcome to attend programs and events at our neighbor park, San Clemente State Beach. Day-Use entrance into the park is free of charge with proof of purchase of current day-use or camping fees from San Onofre State Beach.

Junior Rangers
Junior Rangers is one of California State Parks’ most popular programs. It is offered in over 70 state parks.
Junior Ranger activities cover a variety of topics, including animals, plants, history, weather, recycling and park careers. They are tailored to the local environment and the resources of the park where the program is held. Each activity provides a worthwhile experience that promotes further thought and action by the child, rather than just instruction.
The Junior Ranger program, in inspiring children to become resource stewards, is truly a promise to the future of California and the world.
Programs are catered to children ages 7-12.

Trestles Beach Cleanup
PARKS WEEK EVENT
Join us for Care for our Shared Lands Day at Upper Trestles Beach within San Onofre State Beach. Volunteers are invited to help protect this beautiful coastal habitat by participating in a community beach cleanup and stewardship day. Together we will remove marine debris and any non-native plants, helping keep the shoreline healthy for wildlife, visitors and future generations. This event is a great opportunity to give back to your parks, learn about coastal ecosystems and connect with others who care about protecting California’s natural spaces. All ages are welcome. Gloves and cleanup supplies will be provided.
Please wear comfortable shoes, sun protection and bring water. Feel free to bring your own bag, bucket or gloves to make this cleanup as zero waste as possible. Volunteers should be prepared for a walk to the beach along the trail. Bike parking is available on the paved trail next to the beach.

San Onofre State Beach, Upper Trestles
Parking is available along Christianitos Rd and El Camino Real in south San Clemente. From the parking area, walk west toward the trailhead. Follow the trail toward the ocean, continuing through coastal sage scrub habitat approximately 3/4 mile to the beach. Meet at the lifeguard tower on the sand.
Campfire Program
A Night Under the Stars with a NASA Ambassador
Join us for a special campfire program at the campfire center at San Onofre State Beach. As the sun sets and the fire begins to glow, gather with park naturalists and a guest speaker to explore fascinating stories about space. This family-friendly evening program is a great way to learn more about our galaxy while enjoying the classic state park campfire experience. After the program, visitors are welcome to stay and roast marshmallows over the fire.
Bring warm layers, a flashlight and s’mores supplies.
