Camellia Day – Celebrated each year at the State Capitol to honor Sacramento’s designation as the as the “Camellia Capital of the World”. The State Capitol Museum volunteers create and distribute camellia corsages to visitors and staff at the Capitol beginning at noon.

April             San Francisco 1906 Earthquake Living History Event
San Francisco 1906 Earthquake Living History Event – Museum volunteers and staff dressed in period clothing re-enact scenes in response to one of America’s greatest disasters – the 1906 San Francisco Earthquake and Fire. Meet Governor George Pardee as he receives a telegram from President Theodore Roosevelt offering $1 million for disaster relief. Attorney General Ulysses S. Webb, Secretary of State Charles Curry, and Treasurer Truman Reeves will be on hand to help the refugees. Meet the women of Sacramento who assisted the San Francisco families to obtain meal tickets, clothing, and blankets. Guided tour will run every 15 minutes from 10:30 am to 3:30 p.m., admission is free.


May              Memorial Day Historic Flag Exhibit
Memorial Day Historic Flag Exhibit – The California State Capitol Museum is home to a remarkable collection of nearly 50 flags dating from the Civil War, Spanish American War and World War I. Some of the flags on exhibit at the Capitol have been on display on the parade ground, while others have accompanied Californians into battle. Four of these historic flags have been undergoing conservation and have not been on exhibit for several years.

Independence Day Historic Flag Exhibit – The California State Capitol Museum is home to a remarkable collection of nearly 50 flags dating from the Civil War, Spanish American War and World War I. August          Governors’ Day Living History Event
Governors’ Day Living History Event – The California State Capitol will be turned back to the years 1899-1917, when Museum volunteers and staff dressed in period costume will portray Governors Henry Gage, George Pardee, James Gillett, and Hiram Johnson and their wives, re-enacting important events from these administrations. Each of these notable politicians discusses the issues and events that defined their term in office, such as the 1906 San Francisco Earthquake and Fire and the political influence of the Southern Pacific Railroad.

December     Holiday Music Program in the Capitol Rotunda
Holiday Music Program –  Music fills the Dome, as California’s State Capitol features free lunchtime holiday concerts in December. Enjoy a variety of musical presentations each day in a rotunda decked with glowing vintage decorations and turn-of-the century floral arrangements.  From bell choirs to harps and high school bands, the concerts will feature some of California's finest performers. The holiday music program recaptures a tradition of festive music and décor which began with the grand opening of the Capitol in 1869.
