Malibu Creek State Park in Malibu, CaliforniaMany famous movies have been filmed in California’s State Parks. Because of the great variety of trees, plants and flowers in many areas, our parks have “stood-in” for locations around the world.  Malibu Creek State Park (pictured at the right) has been the site of some notable entertainment projects include " M*A*S*H,"  the Emmy winning " Roots"  televison mini-series, and the western classic " How The West Was Won."

The State Parks Administration and the personnel at individual park units want to work with motion picture, video, and television production companies to make their projects efficient and cost effective. It is important that there be adequate general public access to our facilities during filming projects and that all system unit resources will be protected. Safety of both the public and film personnel needs to be maintained during any motion picture or television program filming.

Navarro River Redwoods State ParkState Parks understands that making a motion picture or filming a television show at one of our parks is a valuable contribution to the economy and tax base of the State of California and can be an effective marketing tool for the State Park System.

Our "Guidelines for Motion Picture, Televison and Multi-Media Filming" are general in nature and are designed to provide systemwide consistency for the benefit of film production companies.

Special circumstances in individual park units will require some additional restrictions and guidelines aimed at the protection of resources and sites unique to those units.
