October 1, 1944 Park Dedication with Earl Warren

Governor Earl Warren formally accepts the Santa Monica Will Rogers’ Ranch from the Rogers Family for the State of California on October 1, 1944.  Leo Carrillo, then chairman of the State Park Commission (standing behind the Governor in the black cowboy hat) was the master of ceremonies.  Jim Rogers, third from the left, in the dark glasses, represented the Rogers family during the proceedings.

“…..and somewhere, somehow, someone should make mention of this fact—that the public today is privileged because of the generosity of the Rogers Family.”

-Emil Sandmeier, Will Rogers’ Personal House Manager  1930-1938
