Governor George Pardee

The Great 1906 San Francisco Earthquake and Fire was one of the most devastating urban disasters in United States history.

On April 18, 1906, the day this epic disaster struck in Northern California, California Governor George Pardee was living in the Governor’s Mansion on 16th and “H” streets in downtown Sacramento.

During the earthquake, Pardee worked mostly at the State Capitol, attempting to communicate with a devastated city being quickly consumed by fire.
