Stewards of the Coast and Redwoods (Stewards), formerly known as Stewards of Slavianka, founded in 1985 works cooperatively with the California Department of Parks and Recreation in the Russian River Sector.

Stewards’ mission is to promote education, preservation, and restoration of the natural and cultural resources of Armstrong Redwoods State Reserve, Austin Creek State Recreation Area, and Sonoma Coast State Beach including the Willow Creek watershed.

Stewards supports volunteer interpretive programs that have made significant contributions in education, conservation, and wildlife and habitat preservation. Stewards funds provide recruitment, training and support to a dedicated corps of 350 regular State Park volunteers who, through creative interpretive programs, raise public awareness about protection and preservation of the plants, animals and sensitive habitats in the state parks of the Russian River Sector. Stewards has also raised significant funding through grants for resource management projects. Stewards receives most of its funding through the sale of interpretive items in State Park Visitor Centers, firewood sales, individual donations, membership fees and grants.

Stewards of the Coast and Redwoods has proven themselves to be a valuable ally to park visitors and staff and is an official cooperating association with California State Parks.
