Point Lobos Foundation

The Point Lobos Foundation was formed in 1978 to enhance the public's enjoyment of the unique qualities of Point Lobos State Reserve. Working in cooperation with the California Department of Parks and Recreation, the foundation supports the docent program, publishes and distributes interpretive materials, and develops and maintains interpretive displays. The foundation publishes a quarterly newsletter with informative articles about natural and cultural history.

A corps of over 100 docents interpets the Reserve. These volunteers bring alive the cultural history of Point Lobos at the Whalers Cabin and Whaling Station museums. Interpretive publications are also sold at the reserve information station. Docents lead public and school nature walks, interact with visitors on trails and give visitors a close-up look at animals through spotting scopes.

The Point Lobos Foundation has proven itself to be a valuable ally to the parks, visitors and staff at the Point Lobos State Reserve. For more information about the foundation and its many activities, or to become a supporter, please visit the Point Lobos Foundation website.
