Park Landscape Maintenance Technician

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Either I Two years of park landscape experience in the California state service.
Or II Three years of experience in planting and caring for shrubs, trees, flowers and ground cover, at least one year of which must have been in public parks, large private estates, institutions, commercial nursery landscaping, or in highway landscape maintenance work. (College training in a two-year course in landscaping or in horticulture, or its equivalent, may be substituted for two years of the required experience on a year-for-year basis.)

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of: Principles of plant growth and the relationship of plants to their environment; plant propagation, lawn and turf management, plant materials; landscape layout and construction principles including blueprint reading; plant pests and diseases and their control; groundskeeping tools and equipment; basic soil science; principles of supervision and safety practices.

Ability to: Recognize and identify plant needs and problems and take corrective action; analyze situations accurately; keep time records and cost records of materials, equipment and expenses; read and write English at a level required for successful job performance.

SPECIAL PERSONAL CHARACTERISTIC Good physical condition.

ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Equivalent to graduation from high school; completion of vocational training courses or specialized college classes in ornamental horticulture or landscape studies.
