Restoration Architect

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Possession of a valid certificate of registration as an architect issued by the California State Board of Architectural Examiners or the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards.

and Education: Equivalent to graduation from college with major work in architecture. (Registration as a senior in an accredited school of architecture will admit an applicant to the examination but evidence of graduation must be submitted before appointment.) and Experience: Four years of professional architectural experience, at least two years on historical restoration and/or preservation projects which has included detailed investigations of historic structures, preparation of historic structures research reports, and preparation of plans and specifications for preservation projects. (One year of graduate study in architectural preservation, American architectural history, preservation planning or a closely related field may be substituted for one year of the required specialized two-year experience.)

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of: Principles of architectural planning and design as they relate to the restoration or historic rehabilitation of a building or group of buildings; research techniques and preservation issues; building codes as they relate to historic structures; building costs; restoration or rehabilitation vs. new construction; adaptive uses of historic structures; structural, mechanical and electrical engineering as related to buildings; American architectural history.

Ability to: Accurately analyze problems and make mature professional judgments; establish and maintain cooperative working relations; present information clearly and effectively in written and pictorial forms; perform work within established schedules.
