This is the lead-person level for the seasonal lifeguard series. Under general supervision, incumbents perform all the duties of Lifeguard I (Seasonal) and in addition, assist in training; planning work schedules and assignments; dispatching and leading a group of seasonal lifeguards engaged in lifesaving activities. A Lifeguard II (Seasonal) must have the ability to follow directions; remain alert; analyze situations accurately; think and act quickly and take command in emergencies; establish and maintain good working relations; and communicate effectively.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Possession of a valid Class C California driver's license with a good driving record at the time of appointment.  Candidates must have the ability to read and write English and have the physical strength and endurance necessary to rescue a struggling victim in the water.  All candidates are required to possess the visual and hearing acuity necessary to detect and rescue a struggling victim in the water.

  • All applicants are required to have successfully completed the California State Park Lifeguard Training Program and have the equivalent to three months of experience performing the duties of a lifeguard in other than swimming pools.
