Franks Tract State Recreation Area 

Franks Tract is only accessible by water and is located southeast of Brannan Island between False River and Bethel Island. Franks Tract Flooded in 1936 and again in 1938. Very few land forms remain exposed, with the exception of remnant levees.

During the fall and winter, a large variety of waterfowl can be found in Franks Tract. The Delta holds a key position in the Pacific flyway. Year round residents include gulls, great blue herons, terns, swallows, crows, blackbirds, cormorants and kingfishers.

Due to the limited access, exposure to strong winds and shallow fluctuating water levels, recreational use is by anglers and waterfowl hunters.

The tract is becoming a popular flyfishing destination for anglers wishing to catch Striped Bass on a fly rod.

Waterfowl hunting is allowed on part of the open water, subject to Department of Fish and Game regulations. All arrangements are made in advance through Brannan Island SRA.

Delt Meadows River Park

Delta Meadows River Park is located near the town of Locke. Delta Meadows gives a glimpse into a Delta of 150 years ago with sloughs, a natural island, and meadows full of wildlife such as black-tailed deer.

The Meadows, as it is called by boaters, is a popular mooring site during the long hot summer. This labyrinth of sloughs, channels, and islands crowded with stands of oaks, walnuts, willows and cottonwoods is unique in the modern delta.

Delta Meadows is accessible by boat, however, one can drive into Railroad Slough from the River Road between Walnut Grove and Locke. Look for a small gravel road just east of the cross channel.

Locke Boarding House Museum

The Locke Boarding House Museum is located on the edge of the Delta Meadows Park Property.

It was constructed in 1909, before the formal development of the town of Locke. It is designated as a National Historic Landmark because of its significance to to the Locke Historic District, a Chinese-American Community established in 1915. Locke is the largest and most intact surviving example of an historic rural Chinese-American community in the United States and the only remaining example in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta.
